Bill Cairns Matchbox Page
Bill Cairns was a good friend of mine. We corresponded and traded Matchbox cars for many years. Bill and I shared the same interest when it came to emergency vehicles. Bill had many, many "code 2" promotional Matchbox releases commissioned through ASAP and Color Comp, Inc. He eventually inspired me to have several of my own made.
Well-known and well-liked by MCCH message board members all over the world, Bill was always a true gentleman. Unfortunately, in January 2007 health issues took him from us way too early. Bill was such a diecast enthusiast that he was buried with a Matchbox car that looked just like the one that he had when he first got his driver’s license.
Bill and his wife Marlene had 329 foster children over the course of 29 years. Bill had a love of life, a big heart, a wonderful sense of humor and really gave back to his community. As a realtor, Bill gave Matchbox cars to his client's children. He also donated them to charity auctions at a local school and even anonymously donated the Westdale Park Church bus to be given to youths at his church.
I’d like for him to always be remembered as sort of a Matchbox legend, so I have gathered Bill’s cars together for you to enjoy. The pictures are clickable and are listed in the order Bill had them commissioned. The date indicates the model's Matchbox USA Newsletter listing.
